The title of this Marseille-inspired deck translates to Thorny Tarot, which refers to the thorn-like diagaonal strokes in the art style Lynyrd-Jym Narciso developed for the deck. Épineux also connotes a certain personality, something stubborn and perhaps, by a stretch, even old-fashionedly so, which works well with the deck's art style. The style of the art is inspired by the art in the first half of the 20th Century, and can be seen as a sort of transition between the painterly dabbing in Impressionism and the hard, difficult strokes in Cubism.
